  David Macdonald, CRNA, MSN

I humbly request to run for the President of the Massachusetts Association of Nurse Anesthetists. I am currently the Government Relations Chair for MANA.

I will work tirelessly to advance and grow our profession in the state, while always keeping an open eye for any malicious legislation towards our practice

I have had the pleasure of working with very dedicated board members, and they have motivated me to run for this office.

I am honored and privileged to be considered as a candidate for MANA Director. I am proud to call Massachusetts my home after residing and training in Minnesota as a student nurse anesthetist. There, I served as a member of the Governance

Task Force, as student liaison to the Mayo Clinic and as a student representative to the AANA Mid-Year Year Assembly.

I am passionate about serving the interests and needs of nurse anesthetists in the Commonwealth, as well as improving the future delivery of anesthesia care. Thank you for your consideration.

   Trudy Pierce, MSN, MBA, CRNA

Legislative process moves at a glacial pace, shapes the landscape of our practice and is influenced by a multitude of factors, including climate.  The leadership of MANA is one of those factors.  It monitors, protects, promotes and positions us to remain accessible, safe, effective and relevant providers of anesthesia in an ever-changing landscape subject to opportunities and threats to our practice.

Since graduating from Northeastern University in 1994 I have spent half of my career as an independent practitioner and enjoy both ACT and solo work.  I have spent most of the last 17 years working in the Pioneer Valley region and completed a Masters of Business in Entrepreneurial Thinking and Innovative Practices in 2014.  I have worked with MANA to lobby our state and national representatives on issues important to MANA and AANA members and those we care for.

If elected I intend to put my experience and education to work and will have an open door, hoping to hear from fellow CRNAs about their experiences, concerns and ideas on how we can best contribute to our facilities while remaining safe, excellent and sought-after anesthesia providers.

Mary Ann Serian, CRNA

I have been practicing as a nurse anesthetist since 1980. In the course of my career, I have experienced many different types of work situations. I have worked in teaching hospitals as a clinical instructor, been a department director and worked as an independent practitioner. These diverse situations have given me a good perspective and understanding of our practice. I have so much pride in our profession. Nurse anesthetists assimilate the varied components of information and incorporate their skill and knowledge of anesthesia and surgical requirements to produce a quality experience for every patient. In addition, the physical and emotional stamina required can be very challenging. We are capable practitioners who have demonstrated safe and consistently reliable anesthesia care. As your representative on the board of directors, I will always strive to move our profession in the positive direction it has earned. We are so valuable to our patients and the medical community. I will endeavor to maintain a strategic philosophy that aligns the needs of our organization with the needs of society to maintain the best possible anesthetic outcomes. Nurse anesthetists play an essential role in maintaining excellence in anesthesia care.
